Materials & Care Guide

14k Gold:
This precious metal is a favorite at AMANDA PEARL for its ability to stand up to the rigors of everyday life. Whether in yellow, white, or rose, 14k is more scratch resistant than its 18k counterpart. While gold is tarnish resistant, it can get dirty like anything else. To care for your AMANDA PEARL fine jewelry, we recommend cleaning it with a mild detergent or ammonia solution. You can use a soft brush, but avoid using an abrasive material as it can scratch the gold. Be sure to rinse and wipe clean.

Diamonds & Precious Gemstones:
AMANDA PEARL Fine Jewelry uses white and black diamonds, rubies, amethysts, emeralds, and sapphires. Though highly valued for their longevity and beauty, they can still suffer chips and fractures from a precise hit. We recommend cleaning these pieces with a mild detergent and a soft brush. Be sure to rinse and wipe clean.
Pearls & Semi-Precious Gemstones:
AMANDA PEARL uses white cultured pearls, Tahitian pearls, and a variety of semi-precious stones. Extra care should be taken with these semi precious stones. Cosmetics, hair sprays, and perfume should be applied before putting on jewelry. Extra care can be taken by wiping the stone carefully with a soft cloth to remove any traces of these substances when you take off the jewelry. You can also wash your pearl with mild soap and water. Do not clean these stones with any chemicals, abrasives or solvents.

Opals

Opal is a soft stone, approximately the same hardness as glass (around 6.5 on Moh’s hardness scale), so it is important to treat your opal carefully in order to avoid damaging it. Remove your opal jewelry if there is a chance it will be scratched or broken (i.e. working in the garden, moving furniture, etc.)

Many people believe solid opals can be damaged by water – however solid opals are fine in water. In fact, most precious opals contain about 5-6% water. As a result, opal may crack if subjected to very dry conditions, excess sunlight, or rapid changes in temperature. Try to avoid very high temperatures or low humidity extremes, such as boiling water or zero humidity bank vaults.
