Materials & Care Guide

14k Gold:
This precious metal is a favorite at AMANDA PEARL for its ability to stand up to the rigors of everyday life. Whether in yellow, white, or rose, 14k is more scratch resistant than its 18k counterpart. While gold is tarnish resistant, it can get dirty like anything else. To care for your AMANDA PEARL fine jewelry, we recommend cleaning it with a mild detergent or ammonia solution. You can use a soft brush, but avoid using an abrasive material as it can scratch the gold. Be sure to rinse and wipe clean.

Diamonds & Other Gemstones:
AMANDA PEARL Fine Jewelry uses ethical white diamonds, as well as other precious and semi-precious stones. Though highly valued for their longevity and beauty, stones as hard as diamonds can still suffer chips and fractures from a precise hit. We recommend removing all of your gemstone jewelry when doing activities like working out, gardening, or swimming in chlorinated or salt water.  You may clean your jewelry with a mild detergent and a soft brush.  Be sure to rinse and wipe clean.

Stones that can be wiped down but should be taken off for showering or swimming and should not be soaked in water are those that are a 5 or below on the Moh's Hardness Scale.  Often these are stones that end in "ite".  They include Amazonite, Apatite, Fluorite, Pyrite, Labradorite, Malachite, as well as Turquoise, Chrysocolla, Diopside, and Lapis.
Pearls & Opals:
AMANDA PEARL also uses cultured pearls and Ethiopian opals. Extra care should be taken with these softer stones. Lotions, hair sprays, and perfume should be applied before putting on jewelry. Extra care can be taken by wiping the stones carefully with a soft, damp cloth to remove any traces of these substances when you take off the jewelry.  Do not clean these stones with any chemicals, abrasives or solvents and make sure to take them off before swimming or showering to keep them in lasting condition.

A special note on opals:

Opal is a soft stone that is prone to drying out and cracking if improperly treated, however, if our provided care instructions are followed, they will last a lifetime and beyond. We also suggest removing your opals if there is a chance they could be scratched or broken (i.e. working in the garden, moving furniture, participating in a Judo match, etc.).

Most precious opals contain about 5-6% water. As a result, opals may crack if subjected to very dry conditions, excess sunlight, or rapid changes in temperature. Try to avoid very high temperatures or low humidity extremes, such as very hot water or zero humidity bank vaults. (Please do not store your opal necklace in the protective box it was shipped in. These stones need access to regular humidity otherwise they will dry out and change color.)

Warranty:
While our pieces are made of the most lasting materials, sometimes "life happens"!  Should damage occur, please email QA@amandapearl.com including your name, order number, description and photo(s) of the damage. Our Quality Assurance team will evaluate your item.  The evaluation could take up to 2 weeks, after which we will contact you to discuss the needed repairs and any associated service fees. We take into consideration "time owned" as well as "condition received" when evaluating a piece.

Please note that AMANDA PEARL cannot be liable for damage incurred due to mistreatment or negligence, nor damage caused by misuse or typical wear and tear.
